Matin Mode
Toronto-born, New York-based photographer Matin Zad has an MPS in fashion photography from the School of Visual Arts. He shares a collection of whimsical outtakes for FYGB.
He is deeply inspired by cinema. His dreamy and precisely staged pictures exist somewhere between fashion, film, and fine art.
Zad is a young star in both the art and fashion worlds. winning Bottega Veneta’s 2013 New Exposure Photography Competition; and commissions by Carven, Diesel, and Levi’s Made & Crafted. He collaborated with Duckie Brown on a poster campaign during New York Fashion Week. His work has also appeared in publications including Surface, CR Fashion Book and T Magazine.
On art and fashion: “My favorite photographers have always been ones that blur the distinction between the two, so I don’t feel comfortable being categorized as either one. I don’t see where one ends and another begins when I’m creating images… I’ve always been interested in fashion, but seeing the industry up close has greatly influenced the way I interpret clothing in my work. But above all, I just want to create imagery that speaks of human behavior in an honest way, and that can lend itself to any style.”
